need help with climbing ropes?
I am looking for a good rope for camping/backpacking and hiking.Can u tell me what thickness is good personolly i like the 10.5 or 11 mm thick ropes i am not climbing just what to keep a vary good climbing rope with me.I belive it is better safe then sorry
That depends what you will be using it for. You do not need a rope that thick if you are not climbing on it. A half rope or twin rope around 8mm would be plenty for things like rappelling, roping together, etc. (which is what I assume you would use them for). Most “climbing” ropes are dynamic, meaning they stretch to absorb falls. You would not need that. I simple Static Rope from a company like sterling, beal, petzl, etc would be more than sufficient.

The principle behind the BRD is very simple: as the load of a falling climber is applied – the carabiner is pulled into the scientifically engineered rope slots and the rope is squeezed between the carabiner and the BRD.
