Studies show that the number of car insurance claims filed between November and March (i.e. when the snow’s going to be falling!) climbs dramatically. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to connect the nasty weather with the increase in traffic wipeouts. If you knew you were going to slam face first into a brick wall you’d want to make sure you were well protected first. Why would you do any less for your car?

The first thing you need to know about making sure your car insurance is pumped up for winter driving is that you may need to raise your liability limits. Every state has their own rules when it comes to liability insurance, but most of them have a minimum amount of coverage you have to have before they consider you safe to be out on the roads. Unfortunately, this is one of those cases where “just enough” may equal “not enough”.

Take a second to think about what will happen if you take a slide on the icy, wintry roads and slam into a car with a driver and four passengers. You have three passengers in your own car. That’s a total of eight people whose medical care you’re going to be responsible for. ICU care can total $5,000 or more per day. That’s $40,000 for a single day of care for each of them, and that number doesn’t even consider emergency care, follow-up care and any long term rehabilitation that might be required.

Most experts recommend that you set your liability limits to $100,000 per person or $300,000 per accident, and it’s easy to see why.

Next, let’s talk about comprehensive and collision car insurance. If you’re sharing joint custody of your car with the bank or another lender you’ve already been given the third degree on what kind of insurance you have and the importance of making sure you’ve got full coverage. If you aren’t carrying full coverage, you need to be. Liability is good, but it’s not going to cover the damages to your car after an accident (or a close encounter of the telephone pole kind). And you’re going to be completely out of luck if an icicle comes crashing down from the top of your second story awning and decimates your windshield.

For this, you’re going to need comprehensive and collision.

The last thing you want is to be without wheels for weeks or even months while you save for repairs that weren’t covered by your car insurance, so contact your agent and make sure your coverage is winter ready.

Top Ways to Motivate Yourself to Start Exercising

 Get Moving

Sounds simple? And it is! Decide what you want from your exercise routine, now consider what you like and don’t like about it. Put on some peppy music on your ipod and get moving. Dance a song or two away and then get on to your cardio gym equipment. There will be moments you may like to stop, but keep at it. You don’t have to go to the gym to get a great workout. One of the most common reasons for people not exercising is that they don’t have the time or energy to go to the gym. Well, bring home some cardio gym equipment and don’t give yourself any excuses for not exercising.

Look for Variety

Ideally you should use two or more gym cardio equipment such as a treadmill, stationary bike, step climber or rowing machine. Give your body a full workout by opting for alternate workout routines. If you are working out three times a week, then join a dance or yoga class for two days a week and on the seventh day go hiking or trekking with a group of friends. The idea is to make exercising in multiple forms an essential part of your life.

Motivate Yourself

Promise yourself a book or a movie that you have wanted to watch if you keep to your exercise schedule for at least a fortnight. Do avoid rewards that cause a set back to your weight loss or fitness program, such as a high calorie hamburger or dessert.

Eat and Drink Well

People often say that when they start eating right and feel lighter they feel motivated to exercise. Instead of reducing the food you eat carefully opt for healthier food options. As an alternative to sugary fizzy drinks opt for a refreshing bottle of water. Consciously eat more vegetables and fruits. Reduce your intake of processed foods and especially those that are bound to cause a sugar spike in the body. The healthier you feel, the more you are likely to want to exercise.

The Numbers Count

Weigh yourself and measure your waist, stomach and thighs, write down the measurements in a diary. Next, measure yourself after a fortnight of exercising and you are sure to find a difference. The lost inches are motivation enough for you to keep to your exercise routine.

Beat the Stress

After a long day at work you may want to cuddle up in front of the television and enjoy some comfort food. Get off your butt and on your cardio gym equipment and exercise. Often making your exercise routine the highlight of your day can help motivate you. Place your exercise equipment in front of the television and workout as you enjoy your favorite sitcoms. Or you could listen to an e-book on your ipod as you walk on the treadmill.
