low profile booster seat needed, what is the best?

I have a nissan armada and right now I have a maxi-cosi in there, but my baby has out grown her peg perego and I will be putting her in the maxi. So that means I need a new seat for my 3 year old. I want something that sits low basically right on the seat like a booster (no plastic base) but with 5 point harness belt. and something that is not real wide because I will soon be putting a 3rd car seat in. The reason I want it low is so she can climb up there her self and also if I lift her in its not such a stretch. I have to now lift her quite high to get her in the car seat because the back seat in our SUV is high already. I now about the radian and I like how it sits and the width (only 17 some inches) how ever I’m not to crazy about the price. Is there anything similar to that? thanks

If you use a booster set they usually do not come with a safety belt as the normal seat belt is used. Just about any will do the job as the seat belt is doing the safety portion as long as it is properly adjusted. If you need help just about any highway patrol office can help you with the proper adjustment.

How can I stop my son from getting out of child restraints?

My son is 18 months old and ever since he started walking it has been impossible to keep him restrained. He climbs out of his stroller all the time. We try to let him walk as much as possible when we go out but this isn’t always convenient. I even resorted to taking the stroller to our local army disposal shop and having them rig up an extra harness but that only worked for a day or so before he figured out how to escape from that too. Even more worrying is that he now knows how to undo his seat belt in the car. I was driving along the other day, took a quick look at him when we were at the stop lights and he had almost climbed out of his carseat. Has anyone else had this problem? I’m worried that he is going to seriously hurt himself, I’d be grateful for any tips.

Eighteen months is a tough age for the mother of an escape artist. We tried another car seat, which helped for one son.

With the middle child, we had less luck. I repeated the mantra “I am required by law to place you in a car seat.” In his case, I gave him one warning a day, pulled over (when safe), and rebuckled him. I repeat “I am required by law to place you in a car seat, and you are required to stay buckled in the car seat. If you unbuckle the car seat, you will be in time out for one minute.”

Time outs are not fun for us – I physically restrain him wrapping my arms around him in a secure hug and tell him he is in time out for (bad behavior here) and that I expect him to (correct behavior here). Staying still is the worst punishment in the world for an active toddler, and this is the most extreme form of punishment in our house. I use it only for times when safety is threatened. After the minute is over, I look him directly in the eye and repeat again how I want him to behave. I look for some recognition that he got it (often he avoids making eye contact). With older children, I ask them to repeat back what I expect from them.

This had to happen a few times before the behavior ended.
