Grivel Monster Ice Tool (Spring 2010) $108 ALL CLIMBING SALES ARE FINAL. The Monster by Grivel was designed as a dry-tooling specific tool. Climbers in Europe have finally seen the folly of bending and breaking high performance ice climbing tools on difficult mixed routes where dry-tooling terrain comprises a more significant component of the route than ice. The hot-forged – one-piece head is not modular – and for the price interchangeable picks should not be expected. The beefy (5mm) pick has plenty of teeth on top and bottom – and is hardened to stand up to the abuse of the hardest rock. The shaft is cut from a slab of ChroMoly spring steel. Its shape offers plenty of good clearance and a variety of hand positions. The sticky – rubberized grip area presents both a fatigue-reducing Pull position (aka the Trucker Honk) and a Swing position to efficiently arc the tool into the ice. The grip has been modified from the original to be a bit more aggressive. The shaft may be customized for comfort (each Monster is supplied with a section of Snake to pad the edges of the shaft). Monster is available in a variety of colors and graphics. Specs & Tech: Blade: reverse – positive Materials: ChroMoly steel Construction: hot-forged head CE – Shaft Resistance: EN 13089 (plenty strong) |
